Our aim is to provide inclusive, respectful terminology as used by LGBTIQA+ community members themselves. However we can't control what other people say, and sometimes you may hear or read a term which is outdated, derogatory or contentious. We have included such terms here for information purposes, so make sure you don't accidentally use them yourself. Keep an eye out for the warning sign and check the language-specific LOTE versions for more information.

⚠ Warning: This term is considered outdated, derogatory or contentious in English (and potentially in LOTE). Use of this term may offend.

For translators and interpreters: We understand you may come across clients using such terms. We do not endorse this type of language when you are the author of your own words, but you are not responsible for what your client says. Make sure you know whether a term is offensive or inclusive before rendering it in your other language.
